Surface Roughness Gages - Surface Profilometers

A profilometer also referred to as a surface roughness gage is used to capture surface and profile data of a sample in order to measure roughness, flatness, or other critical 2D and 3D dimensions at a very high accuracy. On a small scale, surfaces can be composed of a series of peaks and valleys with varying height, depth, and spacing. Subtle differences in these features determine if the surface feels smooth or rough, looks matte or glossy, can form a seal, or is suitable for a wear surface.
